DISTORTION

Just submit.

Penelope is looking for answers. Her boyfriend Charlie has vanished, and no one seems to know where he went. Or they aren't saying. As she searches for Charlie, something else seeks her.

Penelope

Fierce and determined, she refuses to give up on Charlie despite the cold indifference from everyone around her.

Charlie

Penelope's missing boyfriend. He exists mostly as an absence — present only on fliers and in the memories of others, especially Penelope who refuses to give up on finding him, no matter the cost.

Ruth

Charlie’s mother. Perhaps she was strong and independent once, but now she sees the futility in agency.

Locations

Paul’s Home

Suburban perfection, inside and out.

Penelope’s Home

Disparate and uncommited.

The Warehouse

Old, decrepit, but persistent - and has a strange hold on Penelope.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

For the past five years, I've been silently observing a particular trend grow in size and impact. Tradwives. What began as a small niche on social media has now grown in reach and influence, amplified by an ideological movement with an agenda to make this lifestyle not only alluring, but the norm again. I find that to be concerning as someone who has seen what living a semblance of that lifestyle can do to people. It's not as glamorous as it's made out to be. This short film is my attempt to pull back the curtain on this growing, distorted view of this trend.

Reach out. Get involved.
